"The Scrap Yard"
Old Steam Locomotives, Diesels,
Rolling Stock and Street Cars of Canada

Please note that we are trying to show only old diesels
that were produced prior to 1990

It's the end of the line for these Locomotives and rolling stock

Locomotive 74 was one of only three built for the
Alberta Government Railways by the Canadian
Locomotive Co and numbered 72, 73 and 74.
They were assigned to the Edmonton, Dunvegan
and British Columbia Railway (ED&BC) which
became the NAR in 1929.  All three operated in
freight and passenger service and were converted
to oil in 1952.

After being replaced by GMD-1 and other diesels in
1960, all 3 locomotives were sold for scrap to
Premier Steel in Edmonton. NAR 73 was saved
from the scrapper's torch with parts from #72 and
#74; after which the 73 was donated to the Alberta
Pioneer Railway Association (APRA) near
Edmonton, who operated it for a time at their
museum; the only NAR steam locomotive still in
existence, while the #72 and #74 was scrapped.

These pictures were taken in July 1977. The
car was located alongside a country road that
parallels the CNR mainline in Manitoba.
I was seeking out the Uno Trestle (east of St.
Lazare, MB) and this car was in a nearby
farmer's field.
